Content editing involves ensuring that a story is organized and structured so that it has a strong focus, pinpointing and correcting weaknesses in reporting, and sharpening writing. This class covers the process from working with authors to identifying deficiencies and strengths in language and structure, and rewriting. In-class editing exercises will help participants polish their skills. The class is geared toward periodicals, not books.

Prerequisite: Completion of a copyediting workshop or relevant professional experience.

Instructor: Jodi Levin is a freelance editor and writer. She was managing editor of Oakland's Urbanview, covering news, arts, and culture; and a features editor at the San Francisco Bay Guardian. She has also taught journalism at New College of California.
