In this class, we'll look at everything you need to know in order to get started freelance writing. We'll go over how to figure out what you want to write, who to write it for, and how to get in touch with them. We'll go over the basics of how to pitch stories: How to find the right editor to talk to, and how to talk to the editor. We'll also touch on the best ways to handle the edit process and how to stay working after you publish your first piece.

Instructor: Sally McGrane is a San Francisco-based freelance writer who writes about business, technology, food, fashion, and social trends for The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Forbes ASAP, the San Jose Mercury News,Red Herring, and Wired. She has also written articles for The New York Times, Forbes ASAP, and Wired from Berlin, Dresden, and Moscow.
