The Life and Death and Life of Henry Grimes

The Life and Death and Life of Henry Grimes is a documentary movie in post production. Mr. Grimes is a jazz musician The story focuses on his return to music. As a youth, Grimes became one of the first African American students at New York Cityís prestigious Juilliard School of Music. He left the school upon learning classical orchestral positions were largely closed to African Americans. Instead he made his way in jazz, playing with Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, and Sonny Rollins. Joining with Albert Ayler, he co-created free jazz. And then, in 1969, he disappeared. An obit ran in 1984. Eighteen years later, Grimes emerged from Los Angelesís skid row neighborhood, ready to make music again. This is the story of his now. Watch the trailer
